I am in year 10 and we have science gcse exams at the end of the year. In my mock exams i am getting C’s so i hope this book will help to push me up to a B or even an A.

  3. Samuel lee

Hi, it’s Sam.. I really need this book as I’m not doing as well as I set out for at the start of your ten, im now in year eleven.. This book will help me because I’m predicted C’s in everything and unfortunately I have been hitting below by a little bit..

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Sam,

Thanks for dropping us a message and for your interest in How to ACE Your GCSEs. It’s great that you’re looking ahead. Like you, at one point, I too was predicted C/D grades. In fact, I rarely saw grades higher than a B in class tests, mocks and actual exams. Achieving good grades was a difficult puzzle back then. However, now looking back, I understand why I continuously underperformed. There are a number of reasons but it started with ignorance. I didn’t truly understand what I needed to do on a daily basis to achieve good grades. It took me years of crap grades, heartache and failure to realise what I had to do. Eventually, I had a strategy that I believed in and that worked continuously through college and university.

My advice? Start this year with a study strategy and get some sort of plan down on paper. Then try to execute that strategy in the first few weeks without second guessing whether it was working or not. It’s the very least you can do!

      I hope this helps.

  4. Elana

I have been getting E’s and U’s in all of my mocks but I am predicted A’s and B’s in my actual exams. I’m struggling to understand what I’m doing wrong and I hope that this will help me to understand what it is I’m doing wrong and also to reach my predicted grades!

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Elana,

Thanks for ordering my book and I hope it helps! Please feel free to ask any questions on here and I’ll be happy to help.

      Thanks,
      Raja

  5. Emma

Hi, i was wondering what subjects you cover in this book? As maths and science are key subjects i NEED to be studying, with my maths target grade is an E and science being a D 🙂

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Emma,

We categorise all subjects into 3 areas:

      1. Memory & learning
      2. Method & Understanding
      3. Written prose

We then provide a strategy for each of those areas. The study techniques described are great for the sciences and other subjects where you need to memorise a lot of information.

      I hope this helps!

  6. Enis

    Hi,
I have the 2015/16 book from my sister and have read it the whole way through. I loved it!!! however I’m doing the 2017/18. Shall I repurchase the book? How different is it? Is there an updated version?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Enis,

No there is no need to repurchase the book. We made changes with some of the examples, grading system and some updated research. However, the core principles are the same.

      Thanks,
      Raja

  7. Daniils

    • Academic Underdogs

Thank you for your interest. The book has been updated for 2016/2017 and is applicable to the current syllabus.

      Thanks,

  8. Immy

I dont know if i should purchase this book because i have really runnish memory and have tryed everything to make it better, will this help?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Immy,

Thank you for your interest. We have a great memory technique in the book called the scribble technique which has helped thousands of students remember/understand even the most difficult information. To put things into perspective, I used the scribble technique to revise for a Biology exam during second year A-Levels. It took me about 3 weeks to revise for it and finished around mid September. I started revising for other exams and didn’t touch the module for about 3 months until we had a random mock paper test in class. I scored 62% in that test – the highest in the class. After skimming over the textbook and completing past papers 3 days before the exam, I bumped up my final exam mark to 96%.

I had the same success with many other exams during A-level and also at university. Many other students who have read the book have also given great feedback on the method – check out our Amazon reviews!

      I hope this helps,
      Raja

  9. Alisina Nazari

Hi i am in year 9 and i am so bad at English and i need a big boost. There are 12 sets in english and im in set 10 so please reply asa soon as possible

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Alisina,

Thanks for your question and well done for searching for these answers while you are still in year 9. With everything else, there are techniques and tricks you can use to improve. However, English and other languages can be quite tricky if you don’t have a natural aptitude for them. Have you tried tutoring?

  10. Ishaq

I was just wondering if I don’t have mentor what should I do ?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Ishaq,

Great question. The first thing I’d do is ask your school to connect you with alumni. It becomes easier to relate to people who’ve been in the same position as you and understand the pressures you face. We are working on putting together a mentorship scheme so please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more details.

      Thanks

Hi. I have not purchased or read your book, but I am interested in it. I am in yr 11 and I would like to know if it has advice about how to deal with coursework techniques as well as revision and exam techniques, because generally I don’t have too much of a problem with my exams. It’s just mostly coursework.

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi,

Thanks for your interest. The book focuses more on study strategy and learning techniques.

Hi I’m from Wales and I’ve just seen your video on facebook. I think what you’re doing is amazing and your (who ever was in that video) story is very inspiring in fact it motivated me to find your website and write this comment. I was wondering what your future plans are and what is your long/short term goals. I really want to reach out and assist you in any way possible, I have a few ideas that could benefit your company. One of the questions i would like to ask is have you thought about reaching out to schools? and possibly sell these kind of books to them? I know my school would be interested in this. As a year 11 pupil i have a lot of worries about the future. If you can just E-mail me at G.llywelyn@btinternet.com it would be very much appreciated.
    Many thatnks Gruff

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Gruff,

Many thanks for your message and kind words. I have dropped you an e-mail.

  16. Sylvia

Bought this and revised for GCSEs, ended up with 3A*s, 6As and 2Bs 🙂 thank you! I would like to ask whether I can continue to use this for A levels – how different is the content for this and the A Level version?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Sylvia,

Thank you for reading the book and trusting my guidance. That is a fantastic result! A massive congratulations to you! The general principles are the same. I recommend getting How to ACE Your A-Levels to students who haven’t done so well at GCSE. That’s not the case for you so I don’t think you’ll need to buy it. If you want a refresher and a boost in motivation, feel free to come along to our GCSE & A-Level Rescue Workshop at the London School of Economics. Reply back on here if you are interested!

Best of luck for this year.

  17. Kripa

Hi, I have not purchased this item yet but I am planning on doing so. However, I am a year 11 student for the new GCSE scheme and I was wondering if it would help me? I believe I have the knowledge (without sounding so self centred) however, I lack revision and that is my main issue.

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Kripa,

Thanks for your interest. The current book, which is available on all channels (this site, eBay and Amazon), is applicable to the new GCSE scheme and for 2018/2019 exams.

The book is particularly useful for those who continuously second guess themselves and ask the question ‘am I doing the right thing?’ or ‘if I carry on doing what I’m doing, will I achieve the grades I want next year?’. If that sounds like you, then I would have a read and feel free to drop any questions here. I’ll be happy to help!

      Thanks again for your question.
      Raja

  18. Beki

Just wondering if you have any tips for deciding A levels because I’m in year 11 and have to decide this Christmas and I’m not even sure of one A level I want to do, thanks
    Beki

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Beki,

Thanks for your question, have you read the last chapter in my book How to ACE Your GCSEs? No worries, if you haven’t – I’m still happy to help.

      Thanks Raja

  19. Leah Ryan

Hi! I’ve read the book and I thought it was really useful and so logical! It made so much sense to revise that way! However, in your book it mentioned to revise from text books rather than revision guides because they have more detail…Again, very true. It’s just that in the school I attend, they don’t give students text books. They ask us to write notes in our work books and use revision guides. This isn’t very good to do if we don’t finish a topic and it’s not in enough detail. I did research and for me to buy all of my text books personally, it would be in the region of £400! So I was wondering if I could have some advice on how to revise without the text books, I there a way around that? Or is that the best option?

    Thank you!

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Leah,

Thanks for reading my book and for your kind words. I would always recommend exam verified textbooks over revision guides, but if there are none, exam verified revision guides from the main brands like CGP are the next best thing. Run through the ‘verify your learning’ procedure in How to ACE Your GCSEs and then get a second opinion from two separate teachers. See if you can borrow the textbooks from a library or from someone in another school. Or try and get a hold of the chapter list of those textbooks and compare them to your syllabus. Doing all this should give you a good idea of where you can stick with the revision guides and where you need to fork out money for a textbook. Well done for trying to get this sorted now as you will be miles ahead of everyone else!

I hope that helps. Please let me know if it isn’t clear.
      Raja

  20. Aisha

I have not purchased this item and I’m very new to Yr11 and the GCSE scheme. Because my year is the first to be assessed with the new grading system, I’m a little bit worried about my revision techniques and I’m hoping that you and this book will aid me in improving my revision techniques

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Aisha,

Thanks for your interest. The book is applicable for the new curriculum, 1-9 grading system and 2018/2019 exams. I have written this book for students just like you who are looking for some structure and strategy when it comes to revision. Do you constantly second guess yourself and ask yourself questions like ‘am I revising the right way’ or ‘if I carry on doing what I’m doing will I achieve the grades I want next year?’? If so, this book will be useful to you.

Please don’t hesitate to message on here again, if you have any other questions. I hope that helps and good luck for this year!

hi, I just got into yr 9 and I’m not sure if to get this book now so I can start practicing as I’m already getting worried. Does this book help for future reference or have i got to use it near the exam?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Tiffany,

Thanks for your interest. The planning and techniques in the book work best when used several months in advance of exams. Of course, the earlier you use them, the higher chance you have of achieving top grades. Reading the book now in year 9 will put you miles ahead of everyone around you, so I do recommend reading it.

Will it help me memories all quotes, dates, drama lines, and all equations for maths and science. Also, as well as helping me remember, will it make sure I don’t mix them up.

Short answer – yes it will help with memorising quotes, dates and drama lines. Also our guidance on mind mapping will stop you from mixing up concepts.

  45. Robert

    Hi,
I really like this book. However i only have discovered it two weeks ago and i have my GCSE’s in may/june. I was just wondering what should i do to make the scribble technique as efficient as possible. At the moment it takes me 15mins per page in the triple only content so how can i reduce that time?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Robert,

Thanks for reading my book. If you have done your layered learning timetable and found that you only have 2-3 days per subject, you will need to prioritise your past papers over your textbooks. This is very important! I would still read through your textbooks using the scribble technique but skip steps 5, 6, 7 and 8. Be a little selective and move through or even skip topics that you know well.

Remember it is imperative that you complete all past papers before exams.

I hope that helps and best of luck!
      Raja

  46. Anna

Do you think this book would benefit me if there are two months till my GCSEs start

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Anna,

Yes it will, particularly the study technique and ‘choosing your learning resources’ parts of the book.

      Thanks,
      Raja

  47. Kam

Hi I’m in year 9 and I’ve started my GCSE courses already but I’m worried I won’t remember everything for the exams. I’m thinking about getting this book but does this book have tips on how to remember information?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Kam,

Thanks for your question. Combining the Scribble Technique with my layered learning timetable will help you remember large amounts of information. For example, I learned an entire 200 page biology textbook in September during first year of 6th form using the Scribble Technique. It took me just over 3 weeks. Several months later our teacher surprised us with a mock exam in class and I achieved 63%, which was the highest mark in the year group. Bare in mind that I did absolutely no revision of this subject during those months. As the real exams approached, I covered the same subject again using the layered learning timetable and bumped up my mark to 96%.

      I hope that helps!

      Thanks,

    • Academic Underdogs

  51. Cyrina

Hi Raja. I have just started Year 9 and I don’t know if this is a good time to get the book or later in the year. Also does this book really work?

    • Academic Underdogs

      Hi Cyrina,

Thanks for your interest. All of the year 9s who I’ve spoken to and that have read How to ACE Your GCSEs have done far better than those in year 10/year 11. I’m not too sure why this is, but I’m guessing it’s because they have had more time to practice the techniques and correct mistakes. Maybe year 9s who buy the book are generally more ambitious and proactive? Not sure, but there is definitely a correlation of some sort.

As for your question ‘does this book really work?’ – absolutely yes and I stand by my techniques 100%. Of course, I would say that as the author so I’d recommend browsing through the comments on the website and checking reviews on Amazon before you buy.

      I hope that helps,
      Raja

Hi, so I’ve been considering buying this book for ages now but I feel like I’ll loose my motivation or it won’t work. I was wondering if it had anything to do with revision and concentration because I find that I start to revise then get bored and give up, do think this will help.
